The plan of Governor Udom Emmanuel and Senator Godswill Akpabio to lobby the Presidency for support for PDP in Akwa Ibom State in return for support for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 has been written off as unworkable by a leader of APC in Akwa Ibom State, Senator (Dr) John James Akpanudoedehe.
Senator (Dr) John James Akpanudoedehe wrote off the PDP’s plan when he spoke at the APC state congress held at SheerGrace Arena, Nsikak Eduok Avenue, Uyo last Saturday.
“As for to deliver the President, it is our business to do and we are going to do it. And let PDP not go to our President and say allow us to form the State Government, we will support the Presidency. What is not your own cannot be your own. We are APC for Buhari and Buhari is for us. You (PDP) are in opposition. You are not in (Federal) Government. You are opposition. You are trying to buy into our party through the backdoor. Will it work? No. It can’t.”
Knowing that President Buhari will overwhelmingly win 2019 election, Governor Udom Emmanuel and Senator Godswill Akpabio have been lobbying some Presidency officials without success in the last one year for a deal to support Buhari in exchange for Buhari’s support for PDP in Akwa Ibom State.
Akpabio particularly has told his close followers again and again that he will support Buhari in 2019.
In the last one year, his fellow PDP senators have tried to remove him twice as Minority Leader for supporting instead of opposing the President.
